When I was 11 I launched a comic book at school. Inspired by the Beano, this esteemed publication, whose name is sadly lost to the vagaries of time, went for 10p (a total bargain, I should add). It sold pretty well, although it had a short run. Producing comics turned out to be a time consuming process, and playing 8-bit videogames, learning to code on my trusty BBC B micro (although the cool kids had C64s), and the endless stream of exams competed for my time.

Fast forward 22 years and I still love writing, still love videogames and continue to be fascinated by all things science and tech.

Comics aside, I came to writing through science. Making complex processes easy to understand, capturing ideas in a nutshell and neatly summarising concepts has always been satisfying. It’s partly why I studied biology. That, and the simple joy of understanding how nature works.

But it wasn’t until I finished a degree in microbiology at the University of Edinburgh that I realised putting words together could actually be a career. Since then I’ve done my share of it: I’ve written health and medical news, dabbled in videogame journalism, developed a Facebook app, had a brief stint in the world of PR and even returned to my comic book roots, scripting educational graphic novels for children.

For me, being copywriter at eBee is a bit of a dream job. With a focus squarely on innovation in healthcare, eBee encapsulates what so many other agencies do not: a hunger for fresh ideas and a real desire to make new, big things happen in the healthcare industry.
